Michalis Karidis
Research
My research is spreading over a period from 1975 up to date an covers a number of research fields. Hydrocarbon toxicity on marine organisms, phytoplankton ecology, coastal marine ecosystems, data analysis methods, phytoplankton physiology using laboratory cultures and coastal management. Most of my work has been published in peer review international journals and technical reports. The results are also presented in conferences.
Teaching
My lecturing in the University of the Aegean since 1987 covers an array of subjects such as Marine Ecology, Aquatic Toxicology, Marine Water Quality and Coastal Management. I have also lectured on Biology as an introductory course, on Aquatic Ecosystems, on Methods of Analysis of Ecological Data, Environmental Science as well as Theory and Practice of Environmental Impact Assessment. Most of these courses are accompanied by laboratory practicals so that the students can obtain experience and get special skills. Fields for data collection are the Strait of Mytilini, the Gulf of Geras and the Gulf of Kalloni. At he same time I have supervised undergraduate dissertations and Ph. D. students.
Professional activities
B.Sc. Degree on Natural Sciences and Geography by the University of Athens. Research Student in the Hydrobiology Laboratory of the Nuclear Research Center Democritus, Athens, Greece. Ph.D from the University of Wales (Bangor) in marine biology. Professional experience as research in Democritos, the National Center of Marine Research (NCMR) and the Hydrobiological Station and Public Aquarium of Rhodes. Since 1986 I am academic stuff in the University of the Aegean. At the same time I have offered consultation on environmental assessments both in the public and the private sector.
