What kind of weather should I expect in Mytilene?
The island has a typical mild Mediterranean climate, with lots of sunshine throughout the year, dry summers and mild rainy winters. The mean annual temperature is 18 °C (64 °F) and the mean annual rainfall is 750 mm (30 in). Snow and very low temperatures are rare, however strong winds are common during winter.
How long does it take to get from Pireaus (Athens) to Mytilene (Lesvos) by ferry?
It varies from 8 to 13 hours, depending on whether you choose to travel with a highspeed or conventional ferry boat.
Where can I get public transportation schedules and info?
Urban bus services operate from Sappho Square downtown, as well as the bus station at Odysseas Elytis airport. Country (KTEL) services operate from Agia Eirini terminal, which is approximately a 5-minute walk from Sappho Square (map).

The Department of Marine Sciences is located just outside Mytilene city (maps), where there is a variety of accommodation available to choose from. Further details can be found on our accommodation for visitors page.
Where can I find an ATM?
There are several banks and ATMs along the waterfront in Mytilene city centre. Please note that there is no ATM in the university Campus.

The Department's building does not have luggage or personal item storage lockers.
What Campus resources are available for people with mobility restrictions?
The Department's indoor and outdoor facilities are wheelchair accessible. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact us.
I am a prospective student and will be visiting the campus; can I sit in on classes?
The University has an open campus that you are welcome to explore, and all lectures are open to public. This however may not apply to some laboratory classes, workshops, or field trips, and best practice is to contact the Professor in charge.
Where is the Student Support/Erasmus office?
The Office is located at the University Hill's administration building; more information can be found here.
Can I access the Internet while I am visiting the Campus?
A wireless internet spot is available on the 2nd floor of the Department of Marine Sciences; alternatively, regular internet channels can be obtained by connecting your laptop computer to any network hub in the Department's offices. Please note that Campus visitors do not normally receive university log-in accounts, and requests for visitor on-site services and server access should be made by a Faculty member of staff.
Where can I park on the campus? Do I need a parking permit?
The Campus has a dedicated parking space which is free of charge, and no parking permit is required. Note however that parking space is rather limited, hence public transportation is highly recommended.

How close is the University Campus to the town centre or the airport?
The Campus is located approximately 4 km south of Mytilene city, and is easily accessible both from downtown and the Odysseas Elytis airport (maps).
Is there a place in Mytilene that rents bicycles?
Unfortunately, this is not a commonly provided service. Some car rental operators have reported to rent bicycles, however it is best practice to contact them in advance.
